Addressing the Global Cement and Concrete Association in Zurich on Tuesday, UN Secretary-General António Guterres laid out his vision for change in the industry, which he said was “fundamental to building a better world.”

However, there are still many challenges that we must overcome if we are to achieve net zero emissions, including favorable policies and regulations from governments around the world that often do not yet exist.”

The organization previously announced its own commitment to cut CO2 emissions by a quarter by 2030. “The transparency and rigor inherent in the standard is critical. In short: We need concrete commitments from the concrete industry. Real, deep emissions reductions are what matter,” Guterres concluded.
